The NFIA was organized by Walter Borowicz and Joseph Oliveira on June 29, 1950 with the first meeting being at Oxford School with twenty-two interested citizens attending. The second meeting was held at the Oxford School on July 20, 1950 where By-Laws were submitted and accepted. The first officers elected were Walter J. Borowicz, President - James J. Medeiros, Vice President - Jose Urquiola, Secretary and Joseph Oliveira, Treasurer. Elected to the Executive Board were: Mrs. Edith Moore, Walter Jachna, Custodio Marshall, Armand Penha, Wilfred Portway, Frank Krol and Manuel Souza. The 3rd meeting was held on August 17, 1950 in Fire Station #3 with a membership of 105 citizens of which 45 were present. NFIA has been in presence in North Fairhaven ever since. Today, with over 100 members and sponsors, the NFIA is not only a presence in North Fairhaven but contributes to all of Fairhaven.
Meetings are held the third Thursday of each month at the old fire house (267 Adams Street). We are always looking for active members to help us continue with traditions and create new ones. Please join us!
The Calendar of Events for 2024 will include: April - Easter Egg Hunt May - Memorial Day Ceremonies at Fort Phoenix with local Boy Scouts honoring a Fairhaven Veteran June - Fathers Day Road Race water stand in conjunction with local Boy Scouts and Fairhaven Lions Club Homecoming with the famous Cacoila Booth July - Music in the Gazebo Sponsored by the Fairhaven Cultural Council and AllTrust Credit Union August- Car, Truck & Bike Show along with Legendary Street Rods Car Club September - Our Lady of Angels Procession water and rest station at NFIA building October - Annual Halloween Parade November - Veterans Day Parade start refreshments at the NFIA building December - Annual Lighting of Benoit Square and the arrival of Santa
